Adobe Air: Download Remote Files using only Javascript.

The files first:

DrybyDesign_AirFileDownload.zip

What?

I’m working on a post regarding resources/references/tutorials for the few non- XHTML/CSS/Javascript things I need Adobe Air to do for me.

The problem:

Some of the links don’t exist.

The solution:

I’ll just make them.

So the first little demo is downloading files using the streaming tools within the Adobe Air framework. A task which I believe I accomplished without too much bloat.

This will serve as the foundation for building a more air-tight and versatile solution. If there is feedback I’ll tidy up the comments and add a few features I left out.

As it stands the demo is a working application which will take a URL, download the file and save it to the app storage directory. I’ll also add some more explanation to this post if the interest is there.

If you’re like me then just seeing a simple, working example will answer 95% of your questions.
